When it comes to a little luxury and splendor, nothing beats installing a pool or spa in your own backyard. Add a deck, a waterfall or some other water features and you can turn your backyard into an entertainment retreat that your whole family will enjoy.
Here at Stonetree, we understand that pools can enhance the beauty of your home. That is why we strive to install quality pools and spas to transform your backyard into a desert oasis that perfectly complements your lifestyle. We can design and construct pools to fit every space and activity, from bespoke free-form pools to sporty lap pools.
If you’ve always wanted a pool, there is no better time to have one installed. However, keep in mind that this is a big investment so you need to make smart choices regarding the size, shape and type of pool you would like to have. These choices will of course be influenced by your budget, needs and design wishes as well as the available space on your property.
Will A Pool Add Value To Your Home?
Most people are hesitant to add pools to their yards thinking that they will detract from the overall value of the home. This is generally not the case as some types of pools, namely in-ground fiberglass and concrete pools, can actually increase the value of your property.
In order to make the pool a true asset to your home, the landscaping, decks, walkways, fencing, patios and other features associated with it need to blend well together. You need an experienced team of professional pool and spa experts to design and build a pool that will stand out and increase your home’s curb appeal at the same time.
Above Ground Or In-ground Pool?
One of the things you have to consider in your quest for backyard perfection is whether your pool will be an above ground or in-ground one. In-ground pools are more popular as there are about 5 million of them in the US compared to about 3.5 million above ground pools.
Even though in-ground pools are generally more expensive to install, they add more value to your property and offer more customization and backyard landscaping options than above ground pools. In-ground pools also hold up much better than their counterparts and are likely to last for a longer time.
Choosing A Pool For Your Yard
Most in-ground pools today are built of vinyl, concrete or fiberglass and each material has its own pros and cons. They also vary in terms of installation duration and cost.
Concrete Pools
If you want a truly bespoke pool, get a concrete one as they can be made to virtually any shape or size, depending on the available space. Also called gunite pools, they are the strongest and most durable pools available. Installation can take anywhere between 3-12 weeks due to the process involved.
Once excavation is done, the pool is reinforced with steel-walls which are then covered with concrete shot from a special gun. After curing, the concrete is either tiled, painted, textured or plastered to a smooth finish. Concrete pools can be upgraded, enlarged and remodeled later on.
Vinyl-lined Pools
These pools take 1-3 weeks to install and the process is fairly simple. A flexible vinyl liner is attached to a reinforced wall frame made from aluminum, steel or a polymer then fitted into an excavated hole. Although most vinyl-lined pools are rectangular or L-shaped, the liners are available in a variety of colors and patterns to meet your personal taste and design needs. When choosing a vinyl liner, take care to choose one that is about an inch thick because thinner ones can easily be punctured by certain pool toys, sharp objects, kids or pets.
Fiberglass Pools
Fiberglass pools come already pre-molded into different shapes and sizes and are a great option if you don’t want anything custom-built. Additionally, they have seating and steps incorporated into the shell of the pool. These pools are made at a factory, transported by road then set into the excavated hole by a crane so your swimming pool can be ready in a matter of days. Another advantage is that fiberglass pools have a gel coat finish that is stain resistant, nonporous and extremely durable.
Decking For Your Backyard Oasis
Selecting the right material for the decking around your swimming pool can make all the difference between a normal-looking pool and a creative masterpiece. Since the pool deck will be used extensively for sunbathing, lounging and even dining during cook-outs, don’t skimp on the design or choice of material. The decking can be made from poured concrete, tile or brick. Luckily, here in Southern Utah, we have a rich landscape that can provide beautiful natural stone products to use on your deck. Our masonry experts can work the stone to add texture, color and captivating patterns to ensure your deck and pool will be the envy of the neighborhood.
Include Some Pool Features
Your pool wouldn’t be complete without adding some stunning features to make it more impressive. Whether you want to include a quaint grotto, a spacious seating area, a stunning waterfall or reef steps, we are up to the task. You could also install some slides and a shallow splash pool for toddlers and diving rocks for the daredevils in your family. These little touches are guaranteed to make your pool a work of art.
While these features are certainly important, remember to include essentials such as a pool cleaner, ladders or steps, heating systems, water purifiers and a safety cover, according to your needs.
